SHORT: THIS ONE IS PERHAPS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST.

[same intro] Raymond Scott: his music is eternal. Here's the Cartoon Logic band, run by Jeff Sanford (he's on sax and clarinet). Most of these tracks (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12) are Raymond Scott compositions. Weird, novelty jazz from the '30s (and beyond), it's the kind of crazy, ultra-composed, unusual, music that proved great for cartoons (as arranged by Carl Stalling), and is still fresh today. Sanford's bands (some of the tracks are with a septet, some are with a bigger band) have a ton of craft, and the new takes on these pieces (some classics, some more obscure) give them a fresh life. Really, really cool stuff.
RIYL: Raymond Scott, John Kirby, Beau Hunks, Metropole Orchestra, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton

1. (2:56) ***** One of Raymond Scott's most famous, and the playing is even more fevered... wow, jumping cannibal music at double-fast speed: this song has never sounded better.
2. (2:40) *** Another Raymond Scott classic. The auctioneer is a rapidly trilling trumpet, with slightly altered arrangement.
3. (3:57) VOX. Hunting theme turned into a love song. The vocals are fun, but I prefer the instrumentals on the album.
4. (4:06) ** Swank glistening brass. Stomper with room for trumpet solo gymnastics...
5. (2:37) *** Another of Raymond Scott's most famous. Hear the gusher gush. Muted trumpet comes in and dances about...
6. (4:21) ** Written about Karl Rove during the 2012 election. (Wasn't expecting that). Modernist musings, that transform into cow-bell ringing cha-cha midway.
7. (3:55) ** Hep new arrangement of the nursery rhyme.
8. (2:55) *** More modernist Raymond Scott composition, now with vocals. The vocals fit over banjo strumming, jazz bed. Christmas fun.
9. (3:49) *** Arabic clarinets like a snake-charmer. Slow. Heavy drums, hypnotizing and wonderful. Composed by Charlie Shavers, trumpet for John Kirby.
10. (3:05) ** Hoppy somnabulistic hop.
11. (3:28) ***** Perhaps my favorite Raymond Scott song-- weird layerings of new years eve merriment with spooky effects, now with additional solos-- FANTASTIC new take.
12. (4:16) ** Meandering exotica, muted trumpet winds through jungle drums, until a midway speedup, where electric guitar comes in...
13. (4:27) ** Swank loungepad music: hot stuff with cool solos.
