Roy Montgomery/Suffuse

Lie down and let this experimental post-rock album by New Zealand guitarist Roy Montgomery carry you into a flowery dream. He wrote the lyrics to the first 3 songs, which convey a tone squirming with desire, with lines like “When will you come for me?” in track 2. Each track features a different guest vocalist, all of whom are women. Their vocal styles range from blues to pop, pitches get progressively higher throughout the album, and mesh gracefully with Montgomery’s guitar symphonies.

FCC indecent: Track 3.
Try 1, 4, 5.

RIYL: Bethany Curve, Trance to the Sun

1. Apparition (ft. Haley Fohr) - 6:51 - Layers of guitar chugging like a train, paired with contralto female vocals.
2. Rainbird (ft. She Keeps Bees) - 8:14 - Slower, more “chill.” Longing lyrics. Echoing, sparse guitar strums create air and space in the track.
3. *FCC* Outsider Love Ballad No. 1 (ft. Katie Von Schleicher) - 6:14 – Guitar and reverb build up throughout. High-pitched vocalizing for the last 1.5 mins of the song.
4. Mirage (ft. Purple Pilgrims) - 6:10 – Mesmerizing, airy vocals dominate. Music sounds appropriate for a montage of a cowboy walking through the desert.
5. Sigma Octantis (ft. Julianna Barwick) - 8:03 - Dreamy vocalizations, trippy guitar.
6. Landfall (ft. Liz Harris) – 6:01 - Rich guitar blended with indiscernible utterances.
