INDIE FOLK ROCK. Sonnet Cottage is Kent Heckaman (composer, keyboards) and sisters Rachel and Torey Russell (vocals). Guest musicians provide, on various tracks, guitars, bass, drums, strings, the occasional wind instrument, etc. There’s some amplification but generally this has an acoustic folk-rock / light-rock sound.

No FCC issues

* Mid-tempo. Lush instrumentation. Layered female harmonies. (3:30)
** Mid-slow. Spare with 2 voices & guitar at first; later it gets a bit fuller. Lyric examines the wonderful improbability of finding that person you fall in love with. (4:11)
Mid-slow. Melancholy lyric. Backed by piano, a bit of drums, and string section. (4:04)
Mid-tempo. Playful, anti-war lyric. A bit of Spanish rhythm. Acoustic guitar, piano, strings, sax. They serve hot dogs & onion rings with the root beer. (3:30)
Mid-slow. Syrupy sweet. Loads of orchestration: piano, guitar, strings, name it. (4:06)
Slow. A dreary downer of a song spoils lovely chamber music by piano & strings. (3:13)
* Mid-fast. Upbeat, happy little ditty w acoustic guitar, trumpet, snare-less drums. (3:50)
** Neither happy nor sad, but captivating. Gentle, childlike melody. Layered vocals. Nice piano & cello. (2:57)
Mid-slow. The two ladies sing in counterpoint, sometimes a round. More ladies sing angelically in the background. Accompaniment includes piano & harp. (3:09)
* Mid-slow. A big helping of country cliché: trailers, driving, fishin’, an old man dies. Twangy male lead vocal. Band includes acoustic guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, harmonica. Ah-shucks lyric w shout outs to country music heroes, songs, and places. (4:21)
