Monoloc: Drift Label: CLR

While this album can be categorized under the umbrella of "techno", I would actually classify this as an electro-industrial "dark-wave" (dark New Wave) album. It also incorporates a lot of textured noise & mechanical drone. I think "Drift" has more in common with stuff like Front 242 than say, the techno of Derrick May. That said, if you view it under an "industrial" lens, Monoloc's album is pretty stellar. There's a nice collaboration with vocalist Daniel Wilde on a number of the tracks that contribute to the dark-wave/industrial vibe. The noise & beats are oppressive and the sound is dark & sinister. "Try"(3), "Things"(5), "About"(8) are my favorites.

1. A "mega-mix" of the cuts off this album. Pretty epic!
2. Crackles, a sinister beat, drones, a ringing tone. Then the mechanical sounds start kicking in.
3. Skull-pounding broken-beats, waves of noise, and the occasional female vocal sample
4. Dark-wave - quasi-industrial track with male vocal & deep dark drones
5. Simply brutal. Pounding broken beats over assorted mech noise. You must submit and love this track, as I did.
6. Industrial/darkwave. Swirling mechanical sounds, flittering percussion, crashing cymbals and Wilde's vocals.
7. Frozen soul? A soulful male vox sample on an icy cold track that's set at a dub-house tempo
8. Assorted layers of crackly noise with a 1-2-3-count bashing beat pattern. Brutal.
9. Echoing ambience and mechanical grinding noises.
10. Industrial dark-wave. Grinding bass, occasional crushing beats.
