Leonard Shure (1910-1995), a student and teaching assistant of Artur Schnabel, was an influential teacher, a faculty member at many schools including Boston University and the New England Conservatory, and a sought after concert pianist. These recordings are from live concerts 1977-1980 in Boston. Shure’s playing is marked by singing tone, clarity (one can hear everything in just proportion), a superior sense of rhythm, an astonishing range of dynamics and tone colors, and an understanding of harmony and harmonic mvmt. Late in his career he had hand problems, leading to splintered or even wrong notes. His Chopin was never sweet and sentimental, but had deep feeling.
