Album Review

Reviewed 2014-10-30
– General Description: This album of vocal experimentation shows what the human body can produce on the acoustic stage depending on position, tongue articulation, and available lung capacity and little else. Listen with headphones for best experience. Moments of beauty, moments of creepy too.
– FCC Compliant: Almost: Track 1 has sounds which may be construed as sexual exertions; Track 7 at about 6:36 could be misconstrued as the word "f***ed"
– Recommended Tracks: 2, 5
– Track Reviews:
FCC: 1. * (10:08) Medium - breathy fluttering, glissandos, lots of "I might be having sex" vocalizations, quiet to loud dominates, glug-glug, some clear words spoken and sung at times, percussion and whistling, sci-fi radio the last 2+ minutes (no sound last 18 seconds)
2. *** (8:36) A City of No Allusions - pretty singing of sustained notes of the circle of fifths, creates a strong resemblance to "Sunrise" from Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra
3. * (3:58) Sound Patterns - duck-like and baby wah-ing sounds, more glissandos, popping noises, pop pop fizz fizz
4. * (6:41) concerto - tongue fluttering, glissandos sung and sighed, pedal tones under a swinging, some singing too, ding dong
5. *** (8:05) Nevrazumitelny - percussion opening done with stones, clear choral piece follows, end sounds like water
6. * (8:51) Treatise - Movement 1 - based on Cornelius Cardew's "Treatise", lots of glissando, punctuated breathy sounds, sustained tones with sometimes crowded movement above, random words and quacking
FCC: 7. * (7:05) Treatise - Movement 2 - percussive smacking of the stage and body, animal sounds, imitations of air escaping, horns and planes (around 6:36 could be misconstrued as the word "f***ed")
8. * (7:30) Treatise - Movement 3 - snoring, animal sounds (mostly cat), bright little nightmare songs occur, buzzing over clear tones, overall creepy effect
9. * (5:40) Treatise - Movement 4 - male voices start, primal repetitive sounds jarred by female fluttering, extreme dynamics, syncopation over sliding clear tones, much stop and starting of different ideas, ends with bird calls
