slow techno/dub techno/found sound/ambient

Ricardo Donoso usually makes music that could be described as the melodic part of techno, with no drums. Under this alias he adds explicit percussive elements, slows the tempos a bit, and varies the textures by working in some found sound samples. The result is excellent dub techno with some long ambient interludes. Inspired by a diving accident that almost resulted in his drowning as a child, this is actually more much more reflective and tense than sad. Great night time stuff, as you’d expect for this sort of thing.

RIYL: a better adjusted Andy Stott with even slower tempos, Basic Channel, Deepchord

(instrumental, FCC clean)

1. creaking, tapping, rain. rhythm emerges from tapping, bleeps slowly fade up, intertwined rubbery 303 basslines. fade back to waves, beat enters for real around 1:40. nervy bass, menacing stretched sonar sweeps, steady percussion and minimal propulsive melody. leaves just when the groove really gets going. 5:48
2. wind, waves, breathing, bubbling water. subtly glitched and echoed. rumbling bassline floats in and out starting around midway, along with static crackles. 2:22
3. foggy atmosphere slowly fades, up, rhythmic filtered pings enter just before 1:00, hints of bass underneath. beat gets going at 1:45, steady underwater dub techno with just a hint of static crunch for the cymbal, which is real nice. synth fragments, slow compressed air puffs, and swells of the original fog. long pare back to ambience in the middle, beat comes back with tentatively hopeful pinpoint melody after it gets down to nothing but machine hum. 8:39
4. moment of bleepy hesitation, quickly gets going after that, slow rolling dub techno. dark but not brooding, more like quiet wonder. gets a bit pensive in the second half when the beat leaves for a while, re-enters without being melodramatic. 6:40
5. short found sound interlude. electric crackles, underwater exhales to bubbles. bits of synth wash at the end. 1:06
6. steadily thickening bass buzz, beat kicks in at 1:00. slow burner, new melodic elements and dubby rhythmic accents slowly accrete. ambient stretch in the middle. constant low level of tension throughout. beatless for the last couple min. 9:59
