Portland-based but generally wayward and often on tour with artists like Efterklang and Sharon Van Etten, Broderick finally set aside time for her second album, and her first in six years. It's a luxurious widescreen experience, a landmark shift from her heartbreakingly minimal debut From the Ground. Elements of shoegaze, post-rock, dream-pop, ambient-folk. Largely a meditation on perpetual travel and the way it's estranged Broderick from loved ones, it's a heavy listen, but it's worth every minute. All songs are great (and slow in tempo), but 1, 2, 4, 6 are excellent places to start. FCC WARNING: 7.

2. *(4:28)—Warm, minor-key, fluid. Dub reggae elements mixed seamlessly with soft shoegaze guitar.
3. (3:57)—Starts minimal, with just piano and voice. Builds with string swells and cascading backing vocals.
4. *(3:40)—The loud one, with a heavy Cocteau Twins vibe and a massive shoegaze finale.
5. (3:18)—Another piano-driven piece that builds slowly.
6. *(6:56)—Big string-heavy overture. Strong Julee Cruise vibe from Twin Peaks—dreamy, jazzy, dark. The choruses are just amazing, especially when the soft snare comes in.
7. (4:42)—FCC WARNING (s***). Soft, plucked electric guitar.
8. (3:33)—Gentle, with mainly piano and voice until the bass kicks in for the second half.
9. (6:25)—Starts with quiet guitar and vocals. Turns jazzy and dubby, with a trumpet solo at the end.
