Vashawn Mitchell/Unstoppable
Vashawn Mitchell’s 7th album is LIVE and full of traditional and contemporary gospel sounds for everyone. His choir sounds like a cross between Kirk Franklin’s Family and Tye Tribbett’s GA and his musicians are extremely skilled and versatile. Plus there are guest appearances by contemporary gospel greats like Tasha Cobbs, Anthony Brown, and Jonathan McReynolds. If you like William Murphy or William McDowell, you’ll love this album. The songs are inspirational and musically gratifying. NO FCC. Favorite tracks: 2, 7, 8, 11***, 12. Review by Kesha of Lift Jesus Higher!
1.(5:54) – Fast Tempo, upbeat, toe tapper, rallying cry song, driving beat, nice bass line. Song has different sections so doesn’t feel repetitive.
2.(10:00) – Med/Slow/Upbeat – A VERY diverse worship medley from Jesus Culture & Planet Shakers to vintage Kirk Franklin. Wonderfully arranged, adding a Vashawn Mitchell flavor!
3.(5:27) – Med Tempo, long intro, call & response song, persistent clap/stomp to create a “travel song” feel. Consistent beat, with great bass line. Repetitive, but modulates.
4.(4:52) – Med tempo, Rock guitar and organ dominate the verses, then it smooths out for the chorus. Dramatic song.
5.(4:43) – Slow ballad, highlights Vashawn Mitchell’s vocals, starts slow and builds.
6.(6:13) – Songs starts from the end of previous song, it’s the “vamp” from “God My God.” Then it just goes into free worship with exhortation.
7.(5:54) – Fast tempo – Electric/rock guitar persists throughout. Guess vocals by Anthony Brown, and Tasha Cobbs. Nice Heavy bass line.
8.(6:17) – Slow tempo. Ballad, acoustic guitar, organ, are featured in melody. Nice strings and piano complement throughout. Song crescendos into emotional ending, then quiets down. Great female vocal lead from middle to end.
9.(3:43) – Slow - Feat. Vocalist Jonathan McReynolds, it’s an “add-on” from the previous song. A jazzy twist on the chorus as only JMc can do, with his smooth vocal ad-libs and runs.
10.(2:07) – Slow tempo – Organ dominant, traditional gospel feel.
11.(6:44) – Med tempo – Nice worship groove, builds and has a strong chorus, with a classic traditional ending.
12.(6:07) – Title track. Med tempo. Builds and has a funky/groovy finish.
13.(6:24) – Slow/Med tempo. Ballad, that increases in power and feel quickly.
