techno

High quality Detroit techno, warm and immediate, but well-crafted and nuanced. Restrained without feeling intentionally austere. A bit lo-fi, in that it's crackly and dusty, but it still bumps like it should.

RIYL: Kyle Hall/KMFH, Omar-S, Moodymann

1. lo-fi drum machine, clicks and shakers, warbly short phone call sample (tentative female voice), thumping kicks enter after not long. squelchy bassline bounces in, melody starts with small dots of synth, but keeps shifting and slowly adding new lines till it's rich with simple parts circling each other. all the elements subtly but constantly shift and hiccup, ebbing and flowing just a bit, till it all pares back and starts slowly rebuilding around 4:00, expanding and contracting in fits and starts till it sheds its last couple layers. 6:02
2. more lo-fi 808 or 909, kicks trying to get to 4/4 but can't quite get a sure footing, percussion is crackly/blown-out but still heavy. hollow warning sound is first sign of melody, as something warm and shimmery slowly fades up & bathes everything else. synth streaks off at various distances start defined and end up smeared in the near field. kicks leave for a bit, finally returning with certainty, only to be swallowed by the warm shimmer as it cracks into hot filtered overdrive in the homestretch. your new go-to for transitioning from omar-s to tim hecker. 7:26

recommended: 2, either
