Elza Soares – “Septuagenarian Brazilian music icon” teams up with Sao Paulo's avant garde musicians; the dark, not pretty, underbelly of Brazilian culture exposed

NO FCC's; Favorite tracks: 2,10

1-(1:27) – “Coracao Do Mar” --Intro– a capella; – rough compelling voice

*2-(4:37) – “The Woman at the End of the World” – interesting synths and texture, but you can still hear the lyrics! (unfortunately they are in Portuguese) – carnival as a metaphor for the apocalypse-- a street singer for sure, a la Piaf – uvular trill to rival Roy Orbison's

3-(3:44) – electronic and synth effects with The Voice – samba as hip hop

4-(4:31) – bass figure leads off; rock strands; synth background; Elza's insistent voice; compelling

5-(3:56) - “Pra Fuder”-- lots of interesting sound effects backing The Voice

6-(5:05) – “Beneditas,” – slightly lower key vocally; lots of drumwork and high-pitched synth; male-female dialogue; wild

7-(3:32) --”Firmeza” – starts out quiet, heats up; male-female hiphop dialogue, horns, cool cut-out end

8-(3:34) – “Danca” – heavy duty dance rhythm, but loud with words and heavy synth; steep drop-off

9-(3:07) --”O Canal” – waltz rhythm a respite from the intense 4/4

*10-(3:41) --”Solto” – sweeter string sound segues to softer voice and modulations

11-(2:17) – “Comigo” – starts with unsettling synth sounds like airplanes; abrupt stop & a capella
