From Denver, CO. Weathered Statues comprise of members who were previously in the mighty “Cloak of Organs” – their “Blood Moon” is still up there with one of the best tracks of recent years. This release whilst not as intense as Cloak of Organs still packs a punch – Full on tribal pounding infused with dreamy pop elements. The new wave of post post punk. Maybe named after the EP by Cali punk outfit T.S.O.L & with the really nice cover design, in perhaps a nod to older Sisters of Mercy releases, Weathered Statues certainly pay respect to previous bands from within the genre.
Good release: Loving 7
Like: Dame, Skeletal Family, Brigandage, away from female vox, Gene Loves Jezebel, Salvation
No detectable FCC’s

1) Corpse Candle (3.15) Opening few seconds takes you right back to the Joy Division days, then it goes into a more dancey direction. Lots of chicken dancing to this at the alternative clubs. Remixed by Lol Tolhurst of The Cure – That should be enough to get plenty of attention.
2) Betrayal (4.29) Nice melody with catchy chorus.
3) Dark Tides (3.12) Darker moments within a more assessable track. Would be a treat to hear on the radio during the daytime.
4) Heather (3.58) Stronger vocals come through on this.
5) Hypnagogia (4.14) Continues with the intensity then drifts into a pop-ier feel.
6) The Silver Cliff (3.02) Meatier one this. Shades of SDC – Prefer the sound when they keep the pounding going.
7) Sabbat (4.36) Industrial start & then a rip roaring 4 minutes. Emotion packed vocals on display – The highlight for me.
8) The Widow Sunday (3.38) Vocals again in the forefront, real post punk feel behind the driving beat. (long fade)
9) Ossuary (4.17) Has that “All About Eve” pop crossover sensibility to it.
10) Holy Masquerade (4.59) Faster grinding guitars, one of those that would probably come across even better live.
