Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2019-01-10
Large elements of doom permeate this heavy music, with glacial paces, deep growled guttural vocals, but the instrumentation veers heavily into post-metal with attention to guitar chords, arpeggios and overall playing. Dark and heavy for sure. Bandcamp page: “Forlorn and despondent blackdoom based in Oregon. For fans of: Shape of Despair, Saturnus and My Dying Bride.” Play with Slow, YOB.

1) (15:28) quiet minimal synth and piano intro, after 2 min a slick doom, quiet part in middle, goes double time kick thrash 2) (11:50) starts mid slow heavy beat, more heavy than plod doom, when double kick machine gun drums kick in this feels closer to black metal, goes through moods, post rock “mellow” 3) (10:57) slow chill but dark pianos and guitars to begin, heaviness soon follows, some pretty slick vocals back in there, not my fave, quiet breakdowns, outros 4) (12:11) quiet synth to start, grows heavy and complex again, good stuff
