Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2002-02-27
Live singer/songwriter, girl w/ acous guit music. Folkie/indie Lord has been around for a while, gaining fame as a perennial busker, sacking Kurt Cobain (till Courtney stripped the ball from her) then producing fine indie pop solo and in collaboration w/ a who’s who including Elliot Smith and Nick Solomen (Bevis Frond). Here she is, as a new mom, in her old haunts, recording live to DAT on subway platforms under Boston/Cambridge; just her and her guitar. Her hyper melodic breathy girlee voice remains, her guit is folky and strummy mostly, and the songs are almost all cover-tributes ranging from Springsteen, Chilton, Dylan to clinical psycho Daniel Johnston. Cobain knew how to pick ‘em.

1) upbeat, Mag Fields
2) slower, Bevis Frond
3) sweet melancholy love song, Chilton/Big Star
4) upbeat folky
5) slower
6) slower, melancholy
7) like three, Billy Bragg
8) upbeat, jangly
9) slower quieter
10) quieter, The Boss
11) upbeat sorta
12) upbeat, 2/4 Pogues
13) mid paced major picking folky, Colvin
14) upbeat srummy folky
15) folky slightly western, fuckin Dylan, man
16) upbeat metaphorical love song as only Daniel Johnston’s brain could conjure
