He’s got a nice tenor voice; as if the singer from Green Day could actually sing. Sound approximates Barenaked Ladies, but without as much humour. Base instruments are electric guitar, drums, bass. Always sounds pretty, sometimes a bit on the bland side, melody- and sound-wise, but saved by un-crappy lyrics, and fun instruments like accordion, vibraphone, synthesizers, strings, ukelele, etc. All the tracks are playable (none really suck), and there are some really nice ones—like #5.

1. Overture—electric guitar, drums, male voice w/ backup harmony, country sounding w/ electric guitar solos.
2. King Sham—starts off with spacy guitars, upbeat, electric guitar, sarcastic sounding. Ends with accordion solo after a weird pause.
3. Sherman—Waltz tempo, slow with drum beat, quiet vocals, keyboards, accordion; electric guitar solo at end.
4. Now Wait for Last Year—drums/cymbals, bass, vibraphone..med tempo, steady beat.
*5. Entr’acte—Cold-sounding synth/lounge flamenco. Piano, strings, flamenco beat, vibraphone, some spacy synth sounds lightly in background and hushed backup vocals. Best track.
*6. Jeff Lynne—Upbeat acoustic and electric guitar, drums, string arpeggios, fun synth instruments, lots of backup harmony. Not super creative, but catchy.
7. Hey, California—lone acoustic guitar, quiet voice. Gets louder toward end, adds strings, space noise, backup vocals.
*8. Little Plum—ukelele, guitar, cute bouncy song, honky tonk piano, clarinet
9. Hitchcock Blonde—”alternative” sounding electric guitar, drums. One of those conventional-sounding but catchy ones.
10. Finé—slow, quiet, smooth, with acoustic guitar rhythms, strings, backup vocal harmony.
*11. “hidden” track—Upbeat, with loud drums, doubled vocals, doo-wops, electric bass, surf-y sound.
