Solo viola, abstract "sound exploration" stuff. Lots of scattery squeaks and squeals, also lots of nonmusical scraping on the strings. Almost an industrial sound, created partly by using a bow with slack hairs that are sometimes wetted down (#6 sounds like an example).

Lots of activity but a sparse feel overall. Difficult in large doses, because the pieces tend to move slowly and don't differ much. But one track can provide a nice dose of surreal atmosphere.

4, 5, 11- Very quiet
1*- Rhythmic start, lots of energy
2- Low-level groans
7*- High trills and an almost electronic-sounding low buzz
8- Dramatic low notes
9- Lots of scattered squeaks and trills
12*- Covers lots of territory, from quietness to high squeaky aggression
