Modern bebop, mostly "extended" (10- or 20-minute) versions of Holland's compositions. Has solid energy but a softly summery sound, happy. This quintet has been together more than 5 years, giving the players time to absorb the compositions and work them into these longer pieces

Lots of criss-crossing horn lines (sax/trombone) and a cool vibes/marimba wash over everything.

Saxophonist Chris Potter, who's always struck me as bland, sparks some real fire on A2 and B5.

1*- Upbeat; opens w/softly twining horn lines, moves into propulsive solos
2- Mid/fast, scattery but an "easy" sound
3*- Fast and playful. Cool marimba intro.
4- Mid/slow swaying; like a tangiential "My Favorite Things"
5*- Fast bebop pitter-patter; coolly relaxed theme

DISK TWO
6- Mellow; becomes a fast free-for-all near the end
7*- Fast and skippy and energetic. Cute sparse horn break in the middle.
8- More sparse. Features trombone and vibes.
9- Mid/fast popping feel
