Grab a blender. Throw in some Beatles, a little Nirvana, a dash of Fugazi and puree . . . what do you get? A diverse range of sounds and mind scapes, or, more directly, The Proles. Although the entire CD holds a strange familiarity, each track is slightly different and unique, which leaves an overall refreshing taste in your mouth.
Straight outta Sacto, The Proles (which is short for “proletariate”) have offered listeners a close-to-perfect debut album. They describe themselves as “a blue-collar, working class, under estimated group of lovely individuals (not to be confused with simple or low brow).” Well, they’ve definitely peaked my interest; I’m anxious to see what comes next.

Video School: quiet and melodic; sporadic saxophone pieces (6). 6. The Turnaround: creepy crawly bass line intro; scream-ish vocals (reminds me of Kobain/Nirvana) (9). 7. June Lady: heavy drum sound; more melodic background; a little psychedelic (7).
