Interesting compositions from Ribot, with much less emphasis on crazy guitar solos and more on orchestrated woodwinds and strings. The promo blurb mentions the “ritualistic music of Italian composer Giancento Scelsi” as an influence, and it’s hard to argue with that. These pieces were composed as dance numbers so the improvisation one would expect has been replaced with an intense group dynamic. Even with this intensity, the mood is creepy and dark. Great stuff!

*1. Pounding guitar-led tribal romp
2. Sweeping moody soundscape
3. continued from 2, more soundscapes
*4. Drums pick up the pace with reverbed-out guitar
*5. Insistent guitar, still moody
6. Flowing woodwinds
*7. Curious stop-start experimental
8. Brooding, patient, quiet
*9. Eastern European folk crossed with post-rock?
10. Still folky, but now with a cute toy instrument vibe
