Absolutely riveting! Boston female duo does BLUES-INFLUENCED 60s-SOUNDING GARAGE ROCK. Discovered by Jeffrey Evans, the man who discovered and introduced the White Stripes to the rest of the world, these ladies combine PJ Harvey’s blues-rock influences and visceral vocal belting with the Black Keys’ blues-ier guitar chops, and channel them through an 100% unadulterated garage-punk sound that includes primal tom-based beats, slushy one-note organ sounds, and ample rock-thefuck-out distortion. Sweet as Holly Golightly and visceral as PJ Harvey. This will make the hair on your back stand up straight and may bring you before tears of Mr Airplane Man-mania.
Play: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 (all excellent)
1. C’mon Dj! Slushy and noisy. Fully distorto guitars and blues-fueled vocals. Infectious organ interventions and garage-punk mayhem.
2. Swings like Holly Golightly, belts like PJ Harvey, rocks like the Black Keys.
3. Med tempo. Emotionally overpowering. Hypnotic tom-based beats, emotionally catchy chords, mesmerizing/seductive vocals. Sustained organ chords; fuzzy mess at the end (re: Electrelane).
4. This brings me on my knees. Balls-out distorto-bluesy garage guitar riffs, garage-y beats, and riveting vocals.
5. Heavy blues. The Black Keys… only done the right way. PJ Harvey-esque vocals.
6. Soft, sweet, teary tune. Bluesy in a… Mazzy Star-ish way. Beautiful!
7. Uber dirty/muddy guitar leads, sustained organ, PJ Harvey-sque vox.
8. Orgasmic punker! Balls-out rocking guitars and drums. Sexy vox.
9. Dreamy, pretty, swinging. This cover tune will remind you of Holly Golightly.
10. Moving cover of a traditional tune. Seductive/hypnotic beats and several layers of bluesy guitar licks that communicate the feeling of a “gliding” locomotive.
11. Bratty garage punker with slushy guitars and grrrrl-powered attitude.
12. Cover of a Howling Wolf original. Gotta love the stompy guitar licks.
13. Somber blues of gospel-y undertones. A pretty number. Busy guitar fingering/picking. Freely flowing. See track #10.
