This is the soundtrack to Miranda July’s new movie of the same name. The movie is about how people try to connect with one another in this isolating & warped world. This is ethereal & ambient mellow electronics. It’s mostly nice stuff. You can easily hear how each piece is punctuates a film scene.
((((1)))) Strange but nice spoken intro by Miranda July (she does both of the voices). Very life-affirming & to the point. Surrounded by gorgeous ethereal guitar.
(((2))) Slow, floating electro-minimal ambience the 2nd part is more repetitive and varied.
((((3)))) Ambient for ‘lil babies? Super-sparse tones,
((4)) Odd, harmonics, almost newage.
((((5)))) Distorted, repetitive and with a nice slight drone.
((6)) Keyboard-laden singer-songwriter pop, at best = Randy Newman/Squeeze at worst = Lenny Kravitz?
((((7)))) Glowing, repetitive electronics, with breathy female, lyric-less vocals. Odd but nice.
(((8))) Little ambient “woobs”, and “woos” harkens back to track #2’s theme.
(((9))) Piano, bowed guitar (?) making some interesting sounds.
((((10)))) Upbeat, piano/electronic drum/voice mix. Sort of Laurie Anderson-like
((11)) Minimal piano piece.
(((12))) Moves back to the vocals of track 10 but with a louder beat and catchy piano chord or two.
(((13))) Slow, hazy psych-folk/quasi-soul. Catchy but not that captivating.
((14)) Super-minimal, percussive electronic tones.
(((15))) Birds, church bells, piano, solo female vocal track doing variants of “na-na-na”.
(((16))) Space-age bachelor pad action. Silly but fun. Could use a better beat though.
