Progressive metal with hard rock leanings. Vocals you can understand, a saxophone, and long tracks with many changes. They cover a lot of different heavy prog rock areas, including 80s techie thrash like Atheist, math rock, and even some NWOBHM. This really does mix some prog rock ideas, with metal, jazz, and some math rock. A less grindcore version of Spaceboy. From Oakland and much better recording quality than their past stuff.
1. Repeated single note metal riff that kicks into a heavy medium paced thrash-y track. There is a mellow, slow part with almost spoken lyrics.
2. Slight math-rock leanings. Slower and heavier. Nice combination of sax and guitar riffing together a few minutes into the track. Lots of different parts to this song. Prog-metal guitar solo, ambient middle section, slow heavy section, saxophone guitar riff section.
**3. Spoken lyrics and screamed vocals over a semi-lurching thrash-y riff. The track is sort of funny musically, doing some start-stop section with grunted vocals. There is a mellow march in the middle with some sax which lasts a few minutes before a guitar solo/prog jam type ending.
4. Short, fast, and heavier.
5. Mellow drum, bass, and sax beginning which goes on for 6 minutes. The track does get heavy but stays slow the last minute or so.
**6. Heavy with interest time changes. Many, many changes including a jazz interlude with spoken lyrics, and twin guitar lead section that sounds like Thin Lizzy, and lots of lurching and jutting all over the place.
**7. Another mellow beginning with the saxophone like track 5. This slowly changes into some prog guitar noodling. After about 3 minutes of this it kicks into a speedy trash sound sounds slightly black metal, including a borderline grind part.
8. Start with just sax then the band joins in with a slow backing sound. This changes into a quick heavy sound.
Great stuff. -mph
