Album Review
Wicked Child

Brit-RAWK! Garage-punk. Umm, wow. These kids were 17, 18 & 19 when they made this. This is shockingly good & complex teen-angst rock. Mostly cocksure garage-rock that can only be defined as brit-RAWK, with a few random sweet acoustic track. They're pretty angry, but melodic while doing it. Most of these songs are lonely love songs at thier core, because the lead singer & bassist are an item. These guys owe a pretty big debt to Oasis -- a lot of this is a less clean sounding but less angry early Oasis. Actually, it's more like American garage-rock meets angry brit-pop. Nirvana, the Pixies, the Vines & the Foo Fighters vs. Oasis. The songs are (mostly) loud, catchy & short. They're not hard to like.

3 & 7 are the catchiest, and also their first singles. 4 makes me smile. 9 is a great soft track, but *really* reminds me of Oasis. There aren't any clunkers on here.

-Wicked Child

**1. Beautiful, strained Elliot Smith that crashes into angular new-wave revival. (3:25)
2. Nirvana grunge intro. Oasis vocals with female ah-ahs. Loud guitars.(1:52)
**3. Catchy. Patient basslines. Big fuzzed chorus. Best screams on the album at 1:33, 2:07 & 2:40. Last 10s are silent.(2:51)
4. Bouncing acoustic number (for a bit). Silly. Try not to bounce your head & smile while listening to this. "I'm so lonely." (2:59)
5. brit-RAWK. Racous guitars, lots of distortion, screaming indie vocals. (2:08)
6. First minute is wistful acoustic song, second minute is epic power chords. (2:12)
**7. Swaggering. Male & Female vox trade-off. Great sing-along "Oh Yeah!" (2:58)
8. Grunge. Very Liam vocals trading with deep girl-punk. (2:44)
9. Restrained (for them). Tinge of psychedelic. Full harmonies in this song. Pretty & jaunty (3:31)
10. Crunchy guitars to the max, screaming vocals too. Tender choruses. (3:02)
11. Channeling early Oasis-ballad sound. Long electro-acoustic intro, drawn out vox with female harmony. (3:21)
12. Angry guitars, then trying the quiet-ethereal vocal rock thing, then back to angry guitars. Fake-out at 2:01. Builds back to the acoustic part, then really catchy "na-na-na" part, everybody go crazy, scream, thrash the piano. This track is both awesome and terrible at the same time. It sounds like a bunch of half-finished ideas put together, but they're all a bit too good to dismiss.
