Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2006-07-01
Noise, drone, ambient experimental from the mind of Napalm Death guitarist. Double CD that trades noise onslaughts for chill, hypnotic, narcotic sound collage. Majority of tracks are radio friendly length (3-5 minutes) and come across as ideas, notes scribbled on a pad, ready to pounce once assembled. For fans of Eno, NON, Vicodin, Flying Saucer Attack. Confirming my observation that the best noisesters are brutal metal musicians.

CD1:
1) looping layer, drony yet pleasant
2) hypnotic, subsonic bass with high buzz, pretty
3) looping wavering mid tones
4) shimmering trippiness, radio friendly length
5) near ambient, if dark
6) musical loop, nearly
7) ambient trippiness
8) beautiful droney masterpiece
9) lush droniness, high pitches and harmonic
10) more of a musical loop
11) very low frequency droniness
12) pretty, ambient, lush, pleasant
13) lush, FSA’ish pretty
14) different from rest with a melody loop, musical
15) brief, like steel drums banging in space
16) longer piece, loops delve into more musical ambience than noise

CD2:
1) Eno’esque ambient washes
2) sublime noise drone, wash, narcotic
3) chill tones, buzzy
4) beautiful melodic drone
5) looping guitar riff, backwards mask loops, hypnodrone
6) dark looped spooky
7) “bright” melodic songlike change of pace for sure
8) very chill, low toned, surreal
9) beautiful soaring melody behind looping harmonic distortions
10) pretty background with snarling weird tones above
11) 11+ minutes of lovely drone, wash that evolves into a pretty, spacious thing
