Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2007-08-02
Canadian artist plays the Persian drum that the title of this CDs takes its name from. Experimentation with the device, rubbing, scraping and drumming. Bordering on “world” music this is entirely drumming, but experimental in that its all over the map in its exploration of tones. No “rhythm”, hippie hill crap to found.

1) quiet start, sparse scrapes, scratches, eventually some drum hits appear
2) drumming starts in bursts and leads to constant rolling
3) sparse, drumming appears, comes, goes
4) single hits take on a leaky faucet or dripping quality
5) sparse quiet, some near-rhythmic stuff here, there
6) evolves into fast rolls
7) lots of fast finger rolls, this sounds more “typical” of region “tabla-esque”, what you might expect, he keeps it more focused here, rhythmic
8) quiet, haunting moan sounds
9) “rhythmic” in a sense, more like a drum “solo”
