Harmonic Motion: Volume 1
Split EP

Uptempo Instrumental Post Rock. The EP features You.May.Die.In.The.Desert (from Seattle) on the first 5 tracks and Gifts From Enola (from Virginia) on the second 5. This EP is in the spirit of Explosions in the Sky, Signal Hill, Scraps of Tape, Mercury Program, or Maserati but tends to keep a significantly faster beat.
This is You.May.Die.In.The.Desert's freshman attempt. They like to alternate between blasting fast and furious "Friday Night Lights"-like juicer tracks and flipping all over the place with different time signatures, giving them a vaguely math sound. Sometimes you get a distinct taste of Nintendo rock.
The Gifts From Enola side of this disc (tracks 6-10) are more textured and exhibit more experimentation than their full-length. These tracks tend to be the better half of the EP.

Picks: 10! 3,6,7

1 (11:44) A sugary start with vistas of echoing guitars. The second half pulls in a more bouncy bass and lots of cascading melodies.

2 (3:08) The drum kit leads this darker, swaying track with screaming guitars.

3 (5:26) Distinct Nintendo-like intro leads into a collage of beats and melodies with harp-like guitar.

4 (5:14) Starts fairly slow, with a recurring melody. This track doesn't get off the ground until the last 1:30.

5 (5:10) Bouncy track with lots of blah.

6 (5:43) A racing track with some weird feedback effects. The harmonized guitars bounce all over the place and have a beautiful, spritely interlude in the middle of the track.

7 (5:10) Ice cold electronic intro followed by an ascension. The guitars break down into a dark soupy mess at 1:30. The track keeps this dark texture throughout.

8 (2:12) A short slow interlude.

9 (3:40) A tiny bit of glitch and cascading vibrating soundscapes.

10 (9:03) Acoustic for the first minute, then the electric guitar and drums come in to accompany the spanish guitar. Epic, screaming licks. --Dominic
