Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2009-03-29
I’d bank that this guy took the same keyboard that Wesley Willis uses and decided to see what he could do, sans the mildly retarded social commentary and off-key singing (if you have no idea what I am talking about, I suggest that you run, don’t walk to the “W” section of the library and listen to some Wesley Willis). Bizarre compositions that utilize the rhythms and sounds of a “one man band” cheesy keyboard, but with dissonant playing and all the fun you’d expect from something that I would gleefully put on the review shelf, review, and add... in a mess of bodily fluids, vicodin daze.... Josh: this does NOT sound like Frippertronics, Eno, Do Make Say Think or Flying Saucer Attack at all. Fans of fucked up twisted shit take note.

Fun fact: “Boojum” is the name of the most bizarre towering plant that grows in the Sonoran, Baja desert. The first botanist to set eyes on it in the 1800’s said “THAT'S A BOOJUM!” and the name stuck. My friend in high school (who died 4 months ago) opined that naturally produced female vaginal lubricant should be called “Boojum”. Take that, Rick Santorum/Dan Savage!

1) smacks of an upbeat Wesley Willis soundbed, but a tad less programmed (a tad) and dissonant, cool
2) this has a 1-2 techno rhythm about it but it stops there
3) this has a silly feel, cue it for 10 seconds and you’ll get my drift if you want to be silly
4) more chill, no cheesy casio beat, sorta dark and weird if creepy
5) brief, an arty noise piece, yay! Droney and a vicodin daze for hremit
6) okay, the acid trip turns bad when the casio turns to near-LoveBoat music that might give one brain damage, this track should have an MSDS attached (msds = materials safety data sheet)
7) chill, with a dark background rhythm and the foreground is keyboard that is wrong, just plain wrong
8) very long track, upbeat throughout, sort of a spastic venture into the mind of this endearing weirdo, lots of bizarre dissonant playing and all moments exciting. I’d say every moment is worth it
