Modern folk / country / bluegrass with a twist. Think: Cake. I’m not a big folk kid, so my comparisons might be a little strained. I find this somewhat analogous to Bruce Hornsby. The liltier stuff sounds like Jack Johnson. But: These songs are ABSURD. Ironic and random. Funny/bizarre subject matter, kid-simple lyrics. Light-hearted peppy comedic stuff that could soundtrack the Country Bear Jamboree.

“Tall Tall Trees” is the name of a song written by George Jones and Roger Miller. I have no idea who these people are.

try: 3, 5, 7, 1
FCC: 8

*1. starts with clear, bright picked banjo & vocals. nice slow intro of full band. harmonized chorus.
2. quick banjo, hokey kiddie vocal melody and laser sound effects. train track rhythm.
*3. darker, scornful ballad (i’m hearing the mariner’s revenge) about the girl who done us ALL wrong: sallie mae! low bend guitar, throaty vocals to start. does a fiddle hoedown thing later on. play!
4. relaxed, sweet love song. simple strum pattern. a la, oh, jack johnson?
*5. fast, punchy, rocky. quick fingerwork. cool lick-only electric guitar and quick, bouncy one-five bass. it ain’t dire straits, but.
6. slower. crackly, tense banjo & solo vocals. bells & effects & pickup later on.
*7. different. sharp picked staccato guitar melody, trash can drums. low bass. beachy chorus. rocky breakdown. (“adapted from the novel jitterbug perfume by tom robbins,” so sayeth the liner)
8. FCC (“shit”) upbeat busy banjo + bouncy timekeeper bass + train track rhythm + harmonica!
9. this is a cover of the muppets song. stripped-down banjo & walking bass. simple kiddie lyrics. kitchen percussion.
10. uptempo. clean banjo and vibes. is that a washboard or a vibra-slap? truly random heavy rock bridge.
11. silly/stupid/repetitive lyrics. disjoint accordion. “i’ve got a big car”? wtf?
12. ridiculous downtempo waltz. beyond inane lyrics about picking up a waitress who turns out to be a guy. if the vocals weren’t so country, this could be a cake song. brushed drums. an accordion is involved.
