Historics “Strategies for Apprehension”
Called “sonic-pop” (I’d add a grunge and/or punk label in there too…), this supergroup’s songs are pastiches of disparate feeling and electro/alt-rock sounds. Each track, and the album as a whole, has ups & downs & noises that seem incongruous but somehow unified, much like the band members themselves. Historics is Don Devore (Amazing Baby; Ink & Dagger; The Icarus Line), Josh Grubb (VietNam), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), Jeff Knutsen (Fast Fourier), and Matt Werth (Favourite Sons).
NO FCCS Start with 1, 4, 6 basil – basilray@gmail.com

1) **solid alt-rock ditty with subtle a hint of electro bits and bobs
2) driving, droning song; much lighter than its title (“two tons”)
3) starts w/ odd Disney-sounding score
4) * dreamy chillaxed vox, instruments seem tame but dislodge themselves and create a menacing swarm of sounds a few times during the storm
5) nice rumbling percussion beneath a whirring, driving atmospheric track
6) * Kool Keith provides quirky lyrics on choppy, aggressive track
7) * machinated vox & piano chords about defiantly getting over a break up
8) dark, heavy guitar chords mix w/ hair rock cosmic plucking & pounding drums
9) mid-tempo alternative rock w/ electronic drone; has a pause mid way through
10) slow, folk grunge song w/ a ghost onbackground vox; about leaving worries behind
11) rumbling, erratic percussion alongside consistent electro whirr
12) same formula – rumbling drums, droning synth & vox, but overall very bleh
