My Majestic Star- I haven’t got it in me (Hidden Shoal Recordings)

Cinematic, lush string and atmospheric soundscapes mixed with a rock drum-set. You could daydream about finding a boyfriend/girlfriend on Mars to this stuff. The rock guitars and drums are blended with string/ambient arrangements you’d expect during an “emotional” scene in a sci-fi epic. Spacey, but organic, not trancey. The album takes shoegaze turns when vocals are introduced and it sounds like My Bloody Valentine but with lots of strings and clearer vocals. Broken Social Scene comparisons aren’t unwarranted on several tracks. It may be cinematic, but it isn’t cheesy. Give this album a try and you’ll be spitting out documentaries on tree frogs and 10 foot waves in no time. FCC Clean. Picks 9, 4, 7
Doublestuf
1. epic, tragic violins, instrumental, drifting in space cinematic. middle eastern feel in some places. 8:20
2. more guitar based, exploring, voice searching for answers 4:47
3. noisy, crowded, whirly guitars and strings play with each other 5:25
4. ** cool vocal harmonizing, SO much distortion but positive moon hopping 3:49
5. puts you to sleep. I can just imagine slow motion shots of frogs jumping after butterflies to this 4:16
6. smooth, repeated vocal line, littered with cellos and strings 4:57
7.* euphoric shoegaze. Very lush. My favorite instrumental track 3:18
8. sounds like a slow motion jam. Instrumental 3:39
9. *** meandering but powerful chamber pop. Broken social scene ish with dual male/female vocals. All the groups strengths come together here 6:16
10. Atmospheric, lush landscapes, music you’d do yoga to on top of a mountain 6:18
