Daniel Bernard Roumain - Woodbox: Beats & Balladry

Danial Bernard Roumain (DBR) combines electronica, classical violin, and hip hop into a feast for the ears. There are a number of dissonant electronic sounds used on each track that mesh seamlessly with his signature violin and some hip hop beats. I hesistate to compare it to anything because it does an excellent job of relating to a number of different roots while forging its own path. LOOSELY related to a group like Spyro Gyra, but it is significantly more experimental. It offers a number of interesting flavors, but at its heart it is a neo-jazz album. It's melancholy, but the composition of the music gives the album a life that I've never heard before.
