FACTOR -LAWSON GRAHAM
(FAKE FOUR INC.)
as reviewed by mr. esq.

producer's music? indie, hop hop, 60's psych pop.
this is a variety platter. very becky.
(sometimes it's beefhearty.)
songs shift genre gears, seamlessly.
factor is a canadian producer (aesop rock, pigeon john, etc, etc. too many to mention. there are also too many featured artists to mention. they are credited on the back cover track listing.)
'lawson graham' is named after&dedicated to factor's grandfather. and it's pretty damn good.
there are a few moments where it's just lame.
for the most part, the combinations work out pretty well.
and some of it's really funny. loved it.
FCC WARNING: 8&14.
SUGGESTED TRACKS:1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 13

*1. really cool, moody short piece. rain&railroad tracks. sad croon to end. *2. sweet indie pop&beats. yearning vox into phone answering machine -and out- ends with strings. sweet cheese. 3. starts like indie pop, goes hip hop. then female vox talks-sounds like kim deal. really sounds like beck, musically. lead vocals are folky. nice sudden end. *4. who does the vox sound like? beck? this one's more moody, reflective. sad&lovely. 5. half rap/half indie. goes from one to the other, and juxtaposed nicely. ending kinda builds like 'a day in the life', but without the blow up. *6. BEST TRACK: various media collage, subliminal. tape loop vox, soft piano=this is beautiful. *7. pop time transported from the 60's. sounds like it could be for a kids t.v. show. really fun. 8. really lame. really, really lame. the rap is crap, and the indie wimp and rappy just don't juxt =fuck it. 9. oh, how demented! sounds like ghost kittens at the sudden start. they stick around. through the rap: they want milk. 10. moody begin, like first track. then it hits a rap that just doesn't de la soul right. *11. starts out like it's gonna be lame, but it's kinda cool&quicklike: male rapper=cadence reminds me of yoko. great beats&tweaks. arty poppy, catchy quirky. 12. quirky. two vocalists, rapping&shakespearian ghosts. it's perfect comic chemistry. music is kinda bowie, circa 1980. ends w/someone taking a hit...*13. to this little building eno ecosphere. really nice. 14. sudden drums start. cakey. sea chanty to rap. it's like rolling on the sea. funny story. 15. he's back in the ghetto! got a caddy and a 40 -oh this is too hacky=skip it! 16. nice. haunting female vox. mid eastern drums. 17. hack rap -skipper! 18. sad piano underwater, under tape, under tape. sad. hits into rap.
