Ali the Son of Abdul is a Hip Hop band whose songs deal with such social, religious and political issues as discrimination, colonialism, and violence all delivered in a straight-forward, tight flow that is easy to digest. This album has plenty of fist-pumping, head-banging tunes remixed with old scratchy records of outdated political speeches, and other interesting sounds.

My picks: 2, 3, 6

1. “Life” has scratchy sound with monotone beat and some recited speeches remixed in.
2. “Blood Journal” is a rap mixed with a nice drum beat and woman’s repetitious trance-like vocals.
3. “Landlock” begins with an old patriotic chant reminiscent of the USSR and continues with a melancholic beat.
4. “Money” has a haunting and lyrical beat with a repetitive raw flute sound.
5. “Cell” (feat. JM) is a slow, romantic melody reminiscent of an old movie.
6. “Go Numb’ is a more upbeat and quicker paced trance track.
*7. “Magic Man” has a monotonous beat with graphic lyrics dealing with political and social corruption.
8. “Reach Moon” Begins with Harp music that is sutained throughout with lyrics about always reaching for the moon despite obstacles.
9. “Beg” Starts with a professor lecturing about the universe and aliens, slowly drowned out by lyrics about spaceships and false prophets.
