Another chill, lush electronic release from the prolific Melodium, the solo-project of Frenchman Laurent Girard. While he appears to be heavily influenced by minimalist 20th century classical music, he proclaims his work as “pop folk electronica.” Most tracks involve mashing up several different string instruments with electronic beats and a smorgasbord of wicked effects. All but songs 6 and 8 are instrumental.

FCC CLEAN!

RIYL: Amon Tobin, Bitcrush, Phillip Glass, Aphex Twin, Odd Nosdam, Colin’s old show Folktronic

*1. Backward tape loops and beautiful acoustic guitars timidly hold hands to form the perfect union. Lots of electronic percussion and a rad harp (!) melody enter the fray. Such a cool beat!
*2. Angelic synth lines and smooth-as-silk classical guitar. Steady percussion lines. A sure winner.
***3. Gorgeous piano and a shimmery distorted synth lines. Gentle percussion and a delicate brass accompaniment.
4. Short spoken-word intro leads into a lilty piano ballad with gentle flutes.
5. Classical guitar riffs bolstered by skittery electronic drum machines and percussive accents.
6. Acoustic guitar ballad with smooth, gentle vocals and a sunny brass ensemble.
***7. A proper Aphex-Twin jazz/electronica freak-out. Lots of complicated drum and bass segments and chopped up orchestral samples.
*8. Soft vocals over rolling piano, acoustic guitar plucking, and a steady 808 beat.
*9. Mindmelting backwards tapeloops with dark orchestral undertones and gentle shimmering electronic percussion.
*10. A gentle trio of piano, French horn and violin that starts out very professional and mild-mannered starts to get a little schizophrenic thanks to several layers of echo and reverb manipulation.
11. More classical guitar, flutes, and drum machines. Fresh and cool.
