EASTERN BOUNDARY QUARTET: Icicles
Konnex, 2010
POSTMODERN JAZZ – Bridging parallel strands from New York and Budapest, as well as between the avant-garde, standard jazz and Hungarian folk music, this quartet brings a sense of immediacy and adventure to their performance. Well-played music, not too abstract but quite challenging and cerebral in spots, tenderly emotional in others.

4. 9:10 – starts with strong Hungarian melody/rhythm; soon switches to abstract solos and an avant-jazz pulse; piano pulls it outward
5. 5:14 – slow, peaceful tune, billows with a sort of misty majesty; nice piano
