Low Beam Charge of the Light Brigade 2010

Low Beam, an indie pop-rock band consisting of husband/wife songwriting partners CJ Stankewich and Jaimee Weatherbee, bassist Richard Lee Martin and drummer Richard Frietas, began playing together in the autumn of 2001. The band hails from the Mystic/New London, Connecticut music scene. Their engaging sound blends male/female vocal harmonies with indie pop sensibilities and shoegaze alternative rock influences. In “Charge of the Light Brigade”, the band’s first full-length recording, they balance 11 tunes among warm guitars, vibrant keyboard lines and stand-out melodies layered in prismatic vocal harmonies.
1. “AWOL” a great starting pop track with nice keyboards and excellent vocal harmonies.
2. “Skullcrusher” Along with bright, jangling guitars, they sing together with easy grace, while sharing and alternating lead parts on the verses and turning the choruses into soaring vocal showcases.
3. “So Hot” This is a well performed but not so special cover of Jason Pierce’s “All of My Tears (So Hot)”.
4. “Airstream” There's a touch of '80s shoegaze influence in the gently chugging guitars in this up-tempo pop rock tune.
5. “Stratosphere” skillfully incorporates a rhythm section that sounds like mid-‘80s New Order coupled with a reverb drenched guitar and keys.
6. “Tuffy Rhodes” has lullaby vocals contrasting with a series of jagged, roiling guitar breaks and heavy drumming in this crowd pleaser track.
7. “Parabellum” is a slower paced track with a slightly hard edge that has heavy male vocals and a dreamy bass line that rises and falls. THIS TRACK CONTAINS PROFANITY.
8. “Fathom” is another tune that showcases graceful, soaring vocals along with some bright, jangling guitars.
9. “Way Out of Line” has heavy guitar and male vocals and much more of a punk feel to it than the other tracks.
10.“Tourmaline” is a gentle acoustic anti-ballad with Weatherbee on lead vocal and it has great interplay between the musicians.
11.“Roses” A slower paced track with gorgeous vocals and a lovely harmony.
