Droning, rootsy, raga folk that is not quite improv and not quite completely defined. The Gunn-Truscinski Duo is comprised of guitarist Steve Gunn and percussionist John Truscinski. It manages to stay on this side of free jazz because there are motifs that spring up and the percussion is pretty metronomic during much of the record. Absolutely hypnotic and engaging, and not overly noodly experimental. There are tunes in here, but you have to parse them out. All tracks recorded live in studio with no overdubs. Amazing musicianship. Fans of Jack Rose, John Fahey, Marisa Anderson, and the Flower-Corsano Duo take note. This is a rip of a limited edition vinyl from Three Lobed Recordings. No FCCs.

1. Lurching rhythm, very precise, almost locked rhythm acoustic gutiar playing, deep, tribal percussion, raga-like roots Fahey-esque hypno guitar. (8:06)
*2. Spacious open guitar picking, droning under texture ringing, relaxing sounds of scraped metal and other textural percussion, picks up in intensity. (7:24)
*3. Sparkling electric raga guitar repetition with loose, free drum kit, circles a tune and collapses into it, then goes into a percussion break with droning, hypnotic guitar picking, gradually picks back up and returns to earlier motifs. (12:57)
4. Shorter, dreamy echoey Eastern guitar riffing that is recycled and explored a bit with a tribal pound, second half is a lovely droning sloppy wall of humming. (2:56)
