CHARLIE HADEN & HANK JONES: Come Sunday
Emarcy, 2012

SPIRITUALS/HYMNS – Recorded just 3 months before piano great Hank Jones passed away at age 91, this set of duets (a follow-up to 1994’s Steal Away) is quiet, serene, and simply stated. Charlie Haden’s melodic, velvety bass tone fits beautifully with Jones’ rich, sanctified chords and raindrop-sparkle solos. Just lovely stuff all around.

Fo’s Picks: 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14

1. 4:28 – slow, sweet and reverent
2. 2:32 – xmas carol, solemn sound
3. 3:00 – an upbeat, smiling stroll
4. 4:14 – very slow, classical feel
5. 2:10 – simple and very dignified
6. 3:00 – xmas carol, music-box feel
7. 2:56 – steady pace, bass leads
8. 1:58 – gentle and very soulful
9. 3:01 – upbeat march w/bass solo
10. 2:31 – slow, expectant, uplifting
11. 3:58 – midtempo, steadfast feel
