This Memphis band has been releasing gritty, noisy, yet somewhat experimental and trippy punk tunes while building a small following along the way. Some call them garage-punk, others say psychedelic-punk but for the sake of making things simple, Nots is a straight forward punk band at its core. The titular 3 of the new album from Nots can he seen as a reference to the new line-up of the band. Having lost a member in 2018 there was a recalibration of sorts when the quartet became a trio.
Like: The Coathangers, Ex-Cult, White Lung.
FCC: Clean
Play: 3, 4, 6, 9
1.Low (2:35) Nonchalant, laid-back ride along fueled by a chugging bass lines.
2.Woman Alone (2:54) Trippy and experimental a song that swells with sound and emotion.
3.Floating Hand (3:49) Punky synths, sing-scream wail.
4.In Glass (3:24) The keys allow the bass to call the shots and there is an interesting juxtaposition.
5.Persona (3:11) Atonal synths that add some much-needed atmosphere, and the guitar adds some creativity.
6.Half Painted House (3:18) Quintessential punk declaration dedicated to feeling lost and suffocated.
7.Rational Actor (2:47) Swirling feedback, drum-machine-sounding handclap vibes, distort and glitch together.
8.Far Reaching Shadow (0:57) Mini-instrumental track.
9.Surveillance Veil (3:41) Floor tom rumbles and dirty bass lines but with a bit more fluidity.
10.Built Environment (3:47) Riveting punk song the most progressive instrumentation seen from the band.
