Gentle and mystical sounds, primarily from Burik on Alto Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, Voice, Alto Flute. Favorites marked with +. No FCCs.
From Bandcamp: "A hypnotic collection of reed improvisations and treatments of folk melodies. Burik takes her Norse heritage and Scandinavian mythology seriously, and this project gives free rein to her vocal and instrumental expression."
"This album is inspired by figures from myths, folktales, and world history. I find strength and comfort in their stories, feeling my modern identity validated by their ancient ways of being. Above all else, this album celebrates the many ways of being human." - Allison Burik
1. + Be the Dragon 03:33 - Extended clarinet technique gives rich sound and swaying rhythm, sounds like a duo at times even with breathy wordless vocals but I think it is just the one instrument.
2. As the Norns Weave 05:16 - acoustic guitar strums, gentle clarinet with oooh-ooh vocals
3. Solstice I (Dreams and Memories) 02:13 - deep sounds, light trills, reminiscent of nature. Hopeful.
4. Seal Folk 03:25- Irish folk song intro with sea sounds and resonant deep looping sound, wandering clarinet lines.
5. Solstice II (Cycles) 02:05- cycling clarinet rhythms give away to basic organ-like church-like music
6. + Heiemo og Nykkjen 03:36- full goth echo mystery sound on this one. Gentle wind instruments, and confident vocals.
7. Birka 581 04:33-agitated, bassy woodwind and vocal growling
8. Solstice III (The Promise) 01:10- English vocals, acoustic guitar, clarinet with no effects. Simple midtempo
9. + Fragment 94 06:05 - English vocals, slower guitar and clarinet. Loose and free flowing, vocal jazz/folk crossover.
