Cosmic jazz with inspiration from funk and neo-soul. Takuya Kuroda is a jazz trumpeter from Japan who’s been on the rise for the last decade. This record is truly inspired and I loved it all. Kuroda and his band are also brilliant live and the energy in the room is consistently tight. Highly recommended!

FCC: none, this is mostly instrumental jazz

1. (1:11) Intro - The Only Way—Gazey ambient interlude
2. (4:19) * EVERYDAY—Joyous cosmic jazz, sounds amazing live
3. (4:12) * Bad Bye—Meditative, cool syncopated, soulful female vox, love the trumpet on this
4. (5:02) * Car 16 15 A—Whirling frenetic, really wild sound
5. (3:44) Must Have Known—Chill male vox, more soul and R&B, very Robert Glasper crossed with recent Hiatus Kaiyote
6. (4:34) Off to Space—Joyous jazz that never takes a breather, excellent bass groove at points, colorful the way Hiatus Kaiyote is
7. (6:26) * Iron Giraffe—Restrained and smoke-filled, more Miles Davis than John Coltrane, cosmic still
8. (6:27) * Hung Up On My Baby—Wild kaleidoscopic textures, Hiatus Kaiyote again, trumpet takes center stage
9. (6:39) * Curiosity—Dreamlike restrained haze, love when the piano comes in, great closer
