Review: Following decades of struggle, women finally won the right to vote in the United States in August 1920 when the 19th Amendment was ratified. That momentous occasion and the fight leading up to it is celebrated on the latest disc from pianist Allyson and her all-star sextet plus a host of guest musicians and vocalists. The album reimagines songs originally composed in the 19th and early 20th centuries to advance women’s voting rights. Interspersed are readings for historical luminaries for the time leading up to ratification. We’re still waiting for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.
