Tema De Batman
Célio Balona is a pianist and composer whose very long recording career has been mainly focused on producing popular music for the Brazilian market since the late 1950s. By the late '60s, Célio Balona would also embrace modern pop and eventually experiment with the stimulating reverberations of psychedelia. This 7” single reissue, “Tema de Batman,” with the B side “Tema De Ônibus,” showcases a trippy, sonic exercise mixing psych rock, spoken word, science fiction radio broadcasts, jazz, and lounge music. Somehow it works perfectly. Sugar Cane Fields Forever.|
Something else from the press release:
Brazilian psych gem!! This cover of the ‘Batman theme’ by Celio Balona is really something else, as crazy and psychedelic as the tale of Batman traveling to Mars could suggest…
To round off this fab compacto, the B side hides another gem: ‘Tema de Ônibus’, a brass section-led instrumental jazz track for the dancefloor with farfisa sounds, just perfect for those into mod jazz!
RIYL: Luizinho E Seus Dinamites, Los Streaks, Os Nucleares, Los Brincos, and Célio Balona E Seu Conjunto.
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2
1. (03:03) **** Tema de Batman – Medium-up tempo. Wow! Like listening to late 1960s foreign AM radio during the Batman craze. Holy Interplanetary Yardstick!
2. (02:33) *** Tema De Ônibus – Killer mod jazz cut. Instrumental and groovy.
