Big Sir is a collaboration between The Mars Volta’s bassist Juan Alderete and singer Lisa Papineau. Together they bring us a great album of down tempo-ish, trip pop that is carried by the mystical voice of Papineau and the superior production that Alderete has obviously mastered by working with The Mars Volta. Sounds similar to a livelier version of Portishead, Bat for Lashes, and at times slight reflexions to Bjork. My favorites are 2, 4, and 7. FCC Clean
4:20 Starts rather abruptly. Mid tempo, nice fretless bass line and pretty vocals that are found throughout the album.
2:53** Hip hop style broken beat. Faster tempo with uplifting vocals
2:58 Heavy synth riff and dark sub bass with a dark yet mid tempo feel.
2:35** Fast tempo, jungle or garage beat. Almost two step. Very clean. Mid ‘90s London feel. Her vocals are awesome.
2:54 Slow and melancholic feel. Dark and kind of sad.
4:08 Slower tempo. Nice rolling drums and great duet with the addition of a male voice.
2:50** Faster tempo and upbeat feel. Nice driving guitar and drums.
4:04 Slow and sensitive. Piano helps the mood. Lo-fi snare drum.
3:24 Opens with accordion. Mid tempo. Bass gives a Phoenix feel.
5:16 Opens with sinister bass synth. Dark beat starts around 1:06
2:10 Slow tempo. Mostly just voice and bass. Some vibraphone and some additional voice over-dubs in second half of song. ETN
