ANDRE WILLIAMS: “Hoods and Shades” –Acoustic guitars. Electric guitars. Upright bass. Electric basses. Motown Funk Brother Dennis Coffey on guitars. Songs tell down-home stories. Entertaining lyrics. Although it was recorded in Michigan and released by a Chicago record company, the flavor definitely as Blues and Country. Personal Faves: 3, 4, 6, 8. – Sunshine, April 2012
1) Dirt – Countryish ditty. Track should be called “It don’t matter” . . . Twangy. (3:13)
2) A Good Day To Feel Bad – Electric guitar and bass more prominent. Strings jam Down-home lament. Amusing lyrics. (4L48)
3) I’ve Got Money On My Mind – Upbeat takeoff of Snoop Dogg’s song of similar title. Dirty, gravelly blues vocals. (3:33)
4) Hoods and Shades – Bayou blues groove. Verbal “fashion show” . . . talking about myriad places where title garb is worn by all sorts of people. (6:36)
5) Jaw Dropper –Boogie Woogie, somewhat reminiscent of some Elvin Bishop tunes. (2:06)
6) Hu-Matic Man –Sounds like some horn, but probably just moog, and/or guitar riffs, as no horns are listed. Grooves. Cool guitar. (3:13)
7) Mojo Hannah –Spoken intro. Cajun flavor. Swampy and twangy. (4:19)
8) Swamp Dog’s Hot Spot –Drums start it, along with, “Lemme tell ya a story about a man named Swamp Dog . . .” talkin’ about bein’ in jail for selling bootleg CDs. Slow ramblin’ funny tale. Bad Mamma Jamma. Lyrics make me laugh out loud! (6:15)
9) Gimme – “Hey Baby, all ya gotta do is . . . Gimme what I need!” Swampy beggin’ for lovin’. Countrified blues groover. (3:17)
