Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

A band has really become “legend” when remix records start to appear (e.g. Mogwai, Bowery Electric). Local stalwarts have entered the realm for sure. This three song collection downloaded from Thrill Jockey is a 12” release with three tracks that are decidedly “electro”, not house-electronica but closer to that than the Neu’esque psyche noise rock jams they are famous for. More like early 80’s proto synth experimentation a la the very first New Order or Cabaret Voltaire. Great stuff of course, but be prepared to play them with the aforementioned remixes or something downtempo, electronic (or the New Order, “everythings gone green”, check the vinyl).

1) (8:13) Andy Weatherall: A mid/slow plodding near downtempo trippiness, phase shifted vocals, electro-rototoms throughout, an early New Order, 80’s feel
2) (7:06) swirling backwards tracking total trip out, cool
3) (12:12) looped downtempo plod that reminds me of Eno/Fripp stuff, nice and hypnotic
