Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2012-05-02
Post rock, bordering on avante jazz/piano based. All instrumental that incorporates cool guitar and effects but are primarily piano based with jazz drums, complex mathy rhythms and structures. Fans of Do Make Say Think, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic (Mission of Burma), Godspeed You Black Emporer and The Bad Plus will like.

1) (7:03) chill start- plinky, then piano arpeggios w/ soaring guitar, a few minutes in drums appear and it becomes a pensive/epic jam
2) (7:59) glacial slow piano juxtaposed over fast paced drums/bass, subtle guitar noise, picks up
3) (2:47) solo piano, pretty, sad, hopeful
4) (5:36) complex meter, very post rock, very piano based
5) (10:20) chill song-like
6) (8:36) heavy piano and beat, cool guitar
7) (10:15) upbeat jazzy piano trio feel
8) (5:43) chill “smoother” feel, mid almost downtempo
9) (8:58) pensive piano, mathy beat w/ rock guitar’isms, epic jam in the end
