Album Review

Raw and heavy local psych rockers include the rhythm section of Electric Shepherd, whose first album was a favorite here at KZSU last year. They recently performed at EBF and blasted the fuck out of the lame and apathetic frat crowd with their overdriven amps. There’s more of a Black Sabbath or early Pentagram vibe here, a unique and not-too-retro nod to the mystical sounds of the 70s. The overdriven blues riffs place them firmly in the SF canon alongside Blue Cheer. This is a rather murky live recording, but it makes the flanger effects that much more charming.
RIYL Dead Meadow, White Hills, Glitter Wizard. No FCCs detected.

1. (11:19) Part 1 is a lumbering balls-to-the-wall Sabbath blues-rocker, fades into a chugging powerhouse that is far bluesier.
2. (4:21) Midpaced dragging psych murder ballad with some heavy parts. Great lyrical lead guitar.
3. (6:10) Lazy psych improv builds into a solid syncopated heavy rocker, crescendos into some explosive soloing.
4. (6:07) Badass anthemic rocker, driving pulse with some out-there psychedelic layers. BEST TRACK—sick solos from every instruments.
