Sonic Meditations brings us a gem of a tape that will appeal to fans of krautrock and other international / local strands of psychedelia. Totally spaced-out synth improvisations, made even more oblique by the lo-fi cassette quality, are backed by a rhythm section that could give Lumerians or Bardo Pond a run for their money. Fans of synth-heavy space rock (e.g. Hawkwind, 3 Leafs, Tangerine Dream) would enjoy it as much as cassette nerds who dig some of KZSU’s favorite tape artists (Hobo Cubes, No Mind Meditation, Voder Deth Squad, etc.)

Side A is a single long ritualistic dirge into hazy psych rock territory with just drums, groovy bass, and kaleidoscopic layers of synth and organ.

Side B has several tracks, which I’ve neglected to split because (a) fuck it, I’m lazy, and (b) now you get the authentic tape experience. The vibe is totally different here, ranging from dark, wild, Hendrixian primal freakouts over a skittering free-jazz romp; to dense kaleidoscopic math-rock insanity.
