Zurich-based artist Bernhard Gietz's specialty is acid house. But not just traditional straight-up acid-house. He takes this very niche sound (the 303 tweak) and somehow mixes it with lush synthesizers and doing some other weird things to it, like setting acid to dub & even Latin flavors. The results are unusual, and for acid-house traditionalists like me, I find it unsettling. But the product is pretty good. The standouts are: 1 & 5.

1. Twisted acid-house. Starts raw and grinding but a few minutes in the gentle synths smooth out all the rough edges.
2. Wicked analog acid loop but with the addition of lush & layered synth chords gives this an 80s feel similar to 808 State
3. A stripped-down head-nodder featuring a funky bassline and a simple groove, slightly dubby feel to it
4. Space-y techno with layered synths flittering in & out, various acid effects and a repetitive bassline - doesn't really go anywhere but very trippy though
5. Hm. Acid-house mixed with salsa? I didn't think it was possible but it seems to be the case. Latin-infused percussion and bouncy tempo mixed with the insistent grind of analog 303 tweaking. Good track but very unusual, and I find it would be weird to mix into any DJ set.
